Research into school curriculum
I began by looking into the school curriculums to see what I would be creating something for. I am most comfortable with History so I chose that subject overall.
Keystages
I began by looking into key stages as that is how school curriculum is categorised.
- Early Years Foundation Stage – ages 3-5 (Nursery and Reception)
- Key Stage 1 – ages 5-7 (Years 1 and 2)
- Key Stage 2 – ages 7-11 (Years 3-6)
In secondary school, the key stages are:
- Key Stage 3 – ages 11-14 (Years 7-9)
- Key Stage 4 – ages 14-16 (Years 10-11)
Based upon these I am probably going to stick with key stage 2 and 3, as I want the audience to be old enough to be able to use technology (a computer) but also be young enough that it would be easy for me to understand, as key stage 4 tends to be more comprehensive.
Subjects
I then looked at the subjects here is a list from BBC bitesize:
- Prehistoric
- Roman Britain
- Anglo-Saxons
- Vikings
- Middle Ages
- Tudor and Stuarts
- Georgians
- Victorians
- Edwardians
- World War One
- Interwar years
- World War Two
- Post World War Two
- Ancient Greece
- Indus Valley
- Kingdom of Benin
- Maya Civilisation
- Roman Empire
- Shang Dynasty
- Ancient Egypt
Out of these subjects I personally am most interested in:
- Tudor and stuarts
- World war 1
- World war 2
- Roman Empire
- Ancient Egypt
I then limited that down to Tudor and Stuarts, Roman Empire, and Ancient Egypt as my final three options.
